Steps to plan your career

1. Identify yourself and your strengths & weaknesses
It is very important that you understand yourself first before you begin to plan your career. Every person is unique in his/her own form. Some people like to talk, some people like to analyze data, some people like to provide solutions, etc. Each person on planet earth has a mission of life to achieve. Like I mentioned earlier, some of them are lucky to have found one early in life and for some, it takes a while before they settle.

Start with making a list of your passions. Make a list of 5 items and then select from them 2 - 3 items that interest you the most. After this has been done, think about it for the next 2 - 3 days and feel as if you have already achieved your path. Now after 3 days of thinking and building your self-esteem about the chosen path, re-check with yourself if the strength of passion flame has the same energy. At any time if you feel that the energy levels have gone down, check with yourself if indeed that is the correct path that you chose.

2. Research various career options available
21st century has so many career opportunities to offer us that at times it confuses more than help us. Various questions about our career haunt us all the time as we are unsure of the result that we might achieve from the chosen path.

I would recommend that various career options should be studied and analyzed with respect to how to start, the pros-cons of the career, the road ahead, etc. If you have researched various career options, you should then make a informed decision and take on the path of that career.

Internet has helped the mankind in numerous ways to research. Google around on the Internet with various keywords that belong to your career. Participate in various discussion career forums, ask experts and career counselors. Speak with your family and friends about this and seek their guidance. Network with people that have chosen the same path as you intend to take and ask them and seek their guidance.

3. Seek professional training and keep yourself upgraded
After you have understood yourself and researched various career options, the next step is to Act Now and seek professional training in the field of your choice. Many educational institutions offer various courses as per your need, spend some time with them and discuss your career plan with them. This will help you get a further insight into the field you have chosen. You will also get to know the level of training and education required.

An important advice to remember is to never stop upgrading yourself. Many of use keep upgrading ourselves during the initial stages of our career, but then as time passes by and you feel confident, knowledge upgradation stops. This is the single biggest mistake one can ever make to sabotage one's career. Always remember, to begin a career and to advance in the career ahead, you require the same level of passion.
