The formula is to summarize the entire book to 10% - 15% of its size with important notes and your understanding about the book. Once the summary of the book is created - you can probably read and re-read the entire book in less than 2 hours over the weekend and rejuvenate your learning's as you move along in life.

Although difficult and time consuming - but doesn't your life deserve the best. Wouldn't you like to escape your present condition and change your life for good? Wouldn't you like to be a better person?

Think of it like planting a Mango tree. You start with sowing its seeds and nurturing the tree for years before it bears its first fruit. Wouldn't it be great to have an unlimited harvest for the rest of your life? Think about it and read on.

How should you Summarize?

1. Marking the book
While reading you should keep a pencil handy and mark paragraphs that are important to you and give you an A-HA feeling. Make best use of margins and jot down points within them. These points should be brief and capture your understandings, doubts and questions.

After you are done with one chapter - you should move on to step 2 i.e. clearing your doubts and questions.

2. Clearing your doubts and questions
After you have read the first chapter and made notes in the book itself - the next step is to start with your doubts and questions. You must make all efforts to clear your doubts and have all your questions answered. Use the Internet to your advantage by way of search engines and online groups. You could also discuss some concepts with your friends.

3. Make notes
Once you have a clear understanding about a chapter - start to make notes. You could either write it down on a journal or use your computer for it. Your notes should capture all your thoughts and understanding viz. important paragraphs, quotes, anecdotes, doubts/questions - along with your answers, diagrams, etc.

Follow the above steps and create your Summary book. You must read and re-read the summary book as you go along your life. This way you will always remember important concepts and rules to progress in your life.

These were some of my ideas to summarize a book. If you have any please feel free to leave behind a comment.

In the next article I will discuss concepts on how to Practice self help books. Subscribe to our newsletter to get an update.
