2. Follow exercises mentioned in the book

Many self help books have an exercise section towards the end of each chapter or a concept. Read and follow those exercises. You can also search the Internet and discover other exercises pertaining to the concept you are reading.

Religiously following these exercises and applying it in real world scenario will give you an additional level of practice.

3. Teach the principles to others

In my experience the best way to practice is to teach concepts and principles to others. This not only ensures that you are thorough with your concepts but also helps you understand many areas of the concepts that you earlier did not understand well. When you teach others - they tend to ask questions. The answers you give could either be directly from the book - or from your logical thinking. Anyway, you and your friend end up gaining a lot from collaborative learning and discussion.

I would advice forming a group of like minded people who are interested in learning together.

4. Maintain a diary

Maintaining a diary is helpful - as it allows you to make notes of your feelings, questions, experiences, mistakes, etc. Reviewing the diary over a period of time is important as it gives you insight about your thinking and past experiences.

As time goes by and you mature - many questions will get answered thus help your understanding grow.

5. Read and re-read the concept till clear If practicing makes permanent - continuous practice keeps making it even more permanent.

Many of us read a concept and then forget about it. However, my advice to you is to keep reading and re-reading the concepts over a period of 6 - 8 months to keep it fresh in your mind.

I write all this based on my experience. If you have any questions please feel free to leave behind a comment.

In the next article I will write on commitment and what it can do for your life. How can just one small thought change the way you look at work, study, learning, etc. Subscribe to newsletter to get an update.
